Can iPhone Owners Expect Any Impact from the Epic Games v. Apple Legal Battle?
A ruling by Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers in the Epic Games v. Apple antitrust case means that Apple can no longer block developers from communicating alternative payment options to customers outside the App Store. However, the larger point of contention, that Apple operates the App Store as an illegal monopoly, was denied by Gonzalez Rogers. The judge also stated that Apple can't ban developers from including "buttons, external links or other calls to action that direct customers to purchasing mechanisms." Apple has yet to indicate how it plans to react to the decision. Epic Games has already filed an appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
